Going Cable Free

I mentioned in my Chalk Thought Thursday post last week we are going cable free. Technically satellite free but same thing. Anyways, I've been thinking about turning it off for over two years. I just couldn't make up m mind about it.

This summer we started having problems with our satellite. In the extreme heat we had, it wouldn't work. There were only several hours out of the day where it would turn on, mainly when it was dark out! We had to have a tech come out twice to fix it. Finally after that was resolved the remotes stopped working and had to be replaced. I was frustrated beyond belief, especially since the provider was unwilling to work with me on the charges for the time we were unable to use the satellite.

We have had Netflix for a while now and the kids really enjoy several shows on there. After going several days without so much as turning on the satellite I thought it was time. I called and scheduled for it to turn off at the end of the next billing cycle. It's been several days and I'm really not missing it. I know once I redo the budget and see how much money we are saving each month I will be even more excited!

Sure I will miss the DVR automatically recording my shows but really that's it! We have Netflix that we stream through the Wii and the computers, I've signed up for a free trial of Amazon Prime where you can stream TV shows and movies as well and I bought a Roku box for our other TV where we can stream everything too!

What do you do?  Cable, Satellite, web streaming, nothing?

If it weren't for Kevin's sports I think we could consider it. There is so much you can watch online. I was impressed with Amazon Prime's selection. I have a bunch of things that I want to watch on there. I found all the seasons of Party of Five on there over Christmas break!

My name is Sonya and I am married to a wonderful man who is truly my best friend. I am the proud mommy of Lauren and our newest addition Colton! I love to cook, bake, read, scrapbook and I am a photography enthusiast. I also love to be around my large extended family. I have 4 nieces and 5 nephews.

Brian, is my wonderful loving husband. My best friend and the father of my children. He loves being a daddy, boxing, Muay Thai and working out.

Lauren is our 4 year old daughter. She loves her Daddy, running and being outside. She also is a big fan of "neighs" (horses). She amazes me everyday at all the new words that she can say and the new things she is learning. It blows my mind the things that she comes up with. She is such a great kid!

Colton, AKA, Little Man, is our newest addition to the family. He has brought us so much joy. Right now he loves to eat, sleep and is learning to walk. Colton was diagnosed with hip dysplasia at 6 weeks old and has been wearing a Pavlik Harness since 7 weeks. He wore the harness full time for 8 weeks and then part time for 6 weeks for a total of 14 weeks. Having hip dysplasia hasn't slowed him down one bit. He can crawl and has recently started walking
