When It Rains It Pours

I was already preparing a post about the importance of an emergency fund but I thought instead I would share what we have had to use our emergency fund for…just this week. During all the snow Brian hit a pothole on his way to work and put a bubble in his tire. My brother looked at it and sure enough said that it would have to be replaced. Sunday the battery in Brian’s car died so we got to buy a new one of those on Monday. Tuesday when we took Brian’s car into the shop to have the front tires replaced they also said that when he hit the pot hole it cracked his wheel so we had to replace that as well. Then this morning he calls me and said that he got a flat in one of his back tires on his way to work. So this week we will have put 4 brand new tires on his car and a battery. Luckily when his tire went flat this morning he was not hurt in any kind of accident and was able to get it changed safely despite being on the side of a very busy highway.

Brian and I have an emergency fund set up for instances just like this. Although it pains me deeply to take money out of our savings account, I am thankful that we have money set aside and do not have to use a credit card or borrow the money elsewhere. This will just derail us from getting my car paid off as soon as I was hoping. {but maybe that is a good thing since we just paid off Brian’s and look what happened :)}

I feel for you! Right after Christmas this year my husbands truck broke down not once, not twice, three times! Luckily we found a very honest diesel mechanic that investigated the problems and fixed the right problems after one trip to the dealership. On top of that we had to pay for a rental car so my husband for two weeks.

whhhhaaaa!! but i'm so glad you had a stash-o-cash to take care of it. smart smart smart.

but putting your new tires on is like spending a bunch of money on new bras… they're ridiculously expensive, and no one really notices/can see.

glad brian wasn't hurt though. that can be really tough!

hope you are continuing to feel good!

Congrats on the new baby! Colt is a great name :)

Glad you had the emergency fund. My husband and I finally paid off all our debt (except the mortgage) a year or so ago. There is no better feeling. Good luck!

Oh, I know the feeling! We had to replace all 4 of my tires, my battery and my hubby's tie rods all in the last few months. It totally sucks having to take money out of savings, but that is what it's there for.

It always seems to happen that way! For the last few years it seems the expensive things come during the months that I get an extra paycheck! Good thing for the emergency fund!

Thanks for stopping by my blog. You are so right, when it rains in pours! We just bought a newer car and my husband's hours got cut from 40 to 32...awesome. All we can do is embrace it. Good for you guys having a big savings account...we try pretty hard too! Congrats on baby boy!

Phew! It is great that you were able to use your emergency fund for those things. Pot holes are CRAZY around here this year. Absolutely crazy!

My name is Sonya and I am married to a wonderful man who is truly my best friend. I am the proud mommy of Lauren and our newest addition Colton! I love to cook, bake, read, scrapbook and I am a photography enthusiast. I also love to be around my large extended family. I have 4 nieces and 5 nephews.

Brian, is my wonderful loving husband. My best friend and the father of my children. He loves being a daddy, boxing, Muay Thai and working out.

Lauren is our 4 year old daughter. She loves her Daddy, running and being outside. She also is a big fan of "neighs" (horses). She amazes me everyday at all the new words that she can say and the new things she is learning. It blows my mind the things that she comes up with. She is such a great kid!

Colton, AKA, Little Man, is our newest addition to the family. He has brought us so much joy. Right now he loves to eat, sleep and is learning to walk. Colton was diagnosed with hip dysplasia at 6 weeks old and has been wearing a Pavlik Harness since 7 weeks. He wore the harness full time for 8 weeks and then part time for 6 weeks for a total of 14 weeks. Having hip dysplasia hasn't slowed him down one bit. He can crawl and has recently started walking
